Cartoon Nostalgia - The Businessman
I was just thinking the other day (not that one, the other one) about how childrens cartoons where so much better in the time of my childhood ;the eighties, they were very much of there time just good old mindless violence instead of the poor sad "issue driven" and tales of morality we have today. As a result the children of today are being warped by watered down crap like Rugrats, The Wild Thornberrys and the Cramp twins (or crap twins as I call them - see what I've done their)Yes their are exceptions but very few (yeah I know your all shouting "Simpsons!" "South Park!" and "For god sake where are those nude pictures.") but those cartoons aren't really kids cartoons and don't count.
I remeber in my day proper mad explosion manly bastard cartoons like; He-Man, Centurions and Transformers in Disguise. Oh yes transformers was good real good and the toys! those were proper toys. Not like today no today a power puffgirl toys will fall apart as soon as you get it out of the box, at least with optimus prime you had a good 2 days before it fell apart. Yeah they were so satisfying to assemble like manical rubiks cubes.
I had the Transformers in Disguise movie on tape, which is a damn good movie actually, says a lot, about life and the possibility of rebirth and reincarnation, war and the concept of artificial intelligence (much better than Blade Runner did). But I "temporarily" (haven't seen it in 11 years) swapped it with my cousin for a Thundercats video (a story some of you on the chat rooms may have heard). Thundercats is also a pretty good cartoon, and I enjoyed watching the tape, but particurly spent time examining a specific scene of the tape where quite clearly one of the characters-of this kids cartoon-shouts "BASTARD!". Some may argue he is actually saying "FASTER!" as he is running away from some beast, but actually I think he is cheekily calling a psychotic sabre toothed cat a "bastard" as he scamps away. Although it was this humourous occurence that led me to further thoughts and to think that Thundercats was not such a clean cartoon.
Think about it a bucnh of cats all livng in the same house eh? eh? Okay not very convincing, but how about this when Lion-O was confronted by danger (danger= testostone, adrenaline etc) his sword would get longer eh? eh? And he would shine a red light in the sky and shout "HO!" Eh? Eh? A red light and shouting 'ho, ho, do you see, and they all had rathar bizarre S&M weapons, whips, canes and stuff. And he chief villain was a mummy, a mummy- very Sigmund Freud, I can only conclude the Thundercats makers were very sneaky and trying to corrupt our young minds. Anyway I still liked it I'm just saying....
Well when rants begin to dry up a bit it's inevitable that someone will end up writing something that has no sense.........
