It looks like the EU has okayed the software patent directive (which they have to call "Computer Implemented Inventions Directive" for some reason). A threat to open source software, I also see it as a threat to my livelyhood, and I am a software developer!
If software developers don't mind that their ways of doing things cannot be patentable, what the fuck are they doing allowing this? A lot of software developers feel the same way. It's just the stupid marketing people and CEOs that think we're all their slaves. Well, they can go fuck themselves... if anyone can fund me I am going to patent the Giant Skewer, any Turing complete system, or maybe just any automated system, and a general algorithm to cover all algorithms, then see how they like it... err.. no... you can't patent the File menu.. my patent covers all of your software goddammit! Oh, you want to be nasty about it do you? Well, let's see.. how about I create a little license for this software.. you either pay me £666bn for each line of code or you serve as my slave for life.[ Comments ] |
