Guide to Manchester University: Halls - Pobice

Here is my basic guide to staying in halls of residence at Manchester University. It will probably apply for all other UK and possibly world universities.
  1. Mixed Halls - When the information on the halls say that a hall is mixed gender this almost certainly does not means the floor you live or even the same building. Mixed gender simply refers to the entire hall complex and the fact that some buildings are male and some are female. Many people believed the buildings were mixed and some even believed the floors were. The only place this is likely to happen at all is in buildings with en suite rooms, although you're a bit stupid for paying extra really.
  2. Catering - Unless you’re very rich and good at cooking (is there such a student?) a catered hall would be a very good idea, as it is one less thing on your mind plus you will eat properly (which you certainly won't most of the time otherwise). The dinning room also is a good place to socialise epically in the so called mixed halls
  3. Net Connection / Phone - Get one! They are brilliant (i.e. 800k./s download of uk tucows mirror) and also provides a good 24/7 connection with no phone bills, provided that you watch the transatlantic traffic charge (i.e. Napster after 1am only). If you have a data connection in your room you should also have a phone as well. These phones are great as they offer free calls to anyone around the university, who has the same phone system as you (even if you don't sign up to the phone company). This has enormous benefit in arrange when you are going out etc.
  4. Stuff To Take - Here is a basic list of stuff you might need:
