Smokin’ - junior

I didn‘t realise the political plonkers of our country had actually gone for an outright smoking ban in indoor public places. I don‘t smoke, I don‘t like breathing in other peoples‘ smoke, so you‘d think I have no problem with this. Well, given that I‘m ranting about it, if you think that, you‘re an idiot.

The problem, let me explain, is that English social culture is such that people like to smoke, and they like to go to pubs to drink and smoke, and they make part of the atmosphere in an English pub. Some people like to just drink, but they still go to pubs by choice despite the smokey environment.

“Ireland and Scotland are doing just fine.”—Hah! Firstly, we are not Ireland or Scotland. Even a nincompoop can work that out. Secondly, Ireland for one is not “doing just fine”: Takings in pubs have gone down since the initial rosyy‐looking figures pulled out of the collective arses of the propaganda machines.

What‘s wrong with having a designated smoking area, the tap room or vault, while the rest of the place is nonn‐smoking? What‘s wrong with, quite fairly, saying that designated eating areas should be nonn‐smoking? If it‘s a gastropub, then all of it would have to be nonn‐smoking, and I don‘t see a problem with that. I don‘t have a problem with any requirements for, say, more than half of the public place to be nonn‐smoking. I would also encourage a requirement for “adequate” extraction throughout any pub that allows smoking.

Also, what‘s this about “no smoking at the bar” being hard to enforce? Several pubs manage to do this already. Yeah, the punters try it on, but they get told what for.
